AU Background:
Lenneth is one of the three warrior goddess Valkyries, a Chooser of the Slain, and has been since time immemorial. The role of the Valkyrie is to claim the souls of heroes as Einherjar, train them, and if needed, send them to the Halls of Valor at the behest of the Lord of War.
Lenneth last appeared in Dagaria hundreds of years ago, where rumor, legend, and research misidentified her as a death goddess. Believing her to be evil, and responsible for the suffering of himself and his family, a man named Wylfred forged a weapon out of sacrificed souls to slay her, and out of empathy for his plight, she allowed him to slay her. Valkyrie souls being immortal, hers is simply reclaimed.
21 years ago, a young girl named Platina was born in the town of Coriander in Hirawyr, a terribly poor village. So bad was the living that her mother actually chose to sell her into slavery to survive. With the help of her friend Lucian, she escaped and fled into the wild... straight into a massive field of poisonous flowers, where she promptly died. And Lenneth's soul, held within that vessel, returns to the Halls of Valor, ready to return to duty.
Because of her previous lapse at Wylfred's hands, however, the Lord of War elected to seal off her memories of her mortal life, leaving only thoughts of the Halls and her duty in her mind. But the memories have not left her, they're merely inaccessible to her...
Personality: With her memories sealed, Lenneth is distant, aloof, and almost cold. She knows only life as a goddess, and that just briefly. She doesn't understand mortals, though unlike many gods, she doesn't hold them in any particular sort of contempt -- she even admires them a little. When it comes to talking with them, though, she doesn't hesitate to speak the truth -- even if it's horrifically blunt. At one point early in the game, when newly-dead Llewelyn is bemoaning his beloved's misery, Lenneth tells him to his face that by dying on her, he's killed her as effectively as if he shot her with an arrow himself. Ouch.
Despite this bluntness, Lenneth is surprisingly kind. Unlike most gods, she believes that deities can in fact help humans, and should do so. In the aforementioned scene with Llewelyn, Lenneth was actually pushing him to speak to his beloved one last time, which her powers would enable (though she grumbles about not being a love goddess while doing so). She permits others to sacrifice their own souls to preserve the lives of others -- though she can't bring people back to life directly, she can maintain a balance of one living, one dead.
Against enemies, and particularly the undead or those who employ dark magics, Lenneth is an implacable foe. She has no patience for their schemes, no tolerance for their speeches, and no pity for their protestations. In battle, she is confident and almost a little cocky; she IS a warrior goddess, after all, and she can be quick with a taunt or a snappy remark when she gains an advantage.
Combat Style: Lenneth is both a skilled swordswoman and a skilled archer, and can swiftly trade between the two as necessary to accomplish her goals. Her personal fighting is entirely physical except for her divine technique Nibelung Valesti, which, when invoked, comprises a series of blows from her weapon followed by the foe being impaled on three lances of divine energy. While the foe is so trapped, Lenneth rises into the air and summons a dragon-lance, which she then hurls to deadly effect.
Lenneth is also capable of summoning her Einherjar. Her divine power embodies them and gives them strength. If the Valkyrie's own materialization energy is disrupted for too long, they lose their own strength, but otherwise they'e free to move and act on their own.
Lenneth is also capable of creating magic ice crystals, which can be used to freeze foes, as stepping stones, or to shatter into a platform.
She generally inhabits the spirit realm, parallel to the mortal realm, but can manifest in the mortal realm easily. If she wishes to disguise herself she can banish her armor and appear as a normal woman if she so desires.
Kingdom or Faction: Kingdom: Pantheon(?) (Active) Faction: Einherjar.
Primary Role: Commander.
Soldier or Siege Company: Lenneth has a few Einherjar she can summon -- an archer, a knight, and a mage. These are somewhat stronger than the average soldier, but there are fewer of them, so it evens out.
Tarot Cards:
Past: The High Priestess
Present: The Chariot
Future: The Fool
Title: Chooser of the Slain; Battle Maiden
Artifacts: None.
Setting Considerations: Lenneth was originally deployed by Lord Odin to bolster the Aesirs' forces in anticipation of Ragnarok. Some cause for the Lord of War to send her to train Einherjar would be a good idea perhaps.
Sample Post:
Question: Your liege has called upon you to perform a task of great importance. Upon what do you rely to complete it?
If I have been given a task, it is one I can complete with my own strength. I will use my blade, my powers, and the aid of my Einherjar to perform my duty.
Question: What does your presence bring to your kingdom?
The Halls of Valor need warriors. Without the strength of human spirits to sustain them, our efforts will fail. A Valkyrie is the bridge by which a human soul may reach it.
Question: What is love to you?
There is no room in my duty for such a feeling. Nor is there any god I would wish to feel that way for.
Question: It is the eve of a great battle, and the troops have made camp for the night. Where are you and what are you doing?
Human battles amongst themselves are of little concern to me. Only if one worthy of a place among the Einherjar is to die there will I be present.
Question: What do you do in the face of great adversity?
Failure is unacceptable. Whether by perseverance, strategy, effort, or simply tenacity, I will find victory.
Question: For what cause are you willing to sacrifice yourself?
I serve the Lord of War. My existence is at his bidding. Losing myself in any other way is unacceptable.
Question: A celebration is being held in your honor. Lavish food, gifts, and even people are offered at your table. What do you take or do in celebration of your achievements?
There is no cause for me to visit a mortal celebration in my honor. If it were in the Halls of Valor and I were allowed to return...
...I cannot imagine it. There is no cause to celebrate me.
Question: What are your aspirations?
Aspirations? To what would I 'aspire'? I am a Valkyrie. A goddess. There can be no change from that.
Question: What do you make of your dreams?
They are... [A very long pause. This question inspires much more thought and introspection from her than she cares to admit.] ....Nostalgic.
Question: Who deserves to pass judgement upon you, and who do you deserve to judge?
The Lord of War is my master. It is he who assesses my performance, and who rewards or scolds as I have earned. My judgment is reserved for the newly dead, to determine if they are worthy of a place as an Einherjar.
